Cross Match Acquires Labcal Technologies Inc. to Expand Mobile and Wireless Biometric Authentication and Identification Solutions
Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., February 1, 2008 – Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a global provider of biometric identity management solutions, announced that it has acquired the biometric authentication business of Labcal Technologies Inc., a Canadian based leader in providing ruggedized mobile and wireless biometric solutions for identification and authentication. Cross Match also acquired Labcal’s SmartProfile single sign on (SSO) business in the transaction.
Labcal is a global leader and innovator in providing ruggedized, handheld mobile computing platforms that integrate biometrics, smart card technologies, wireless communications and application software for mobile authentication of persons and documents such as National IDs, e-Passports, benefits provision cards and various employee and worker IDs. Labcal’s ruggedized, handheld biometric authentication products feature smart card and public key infrastructure (PKI) technologies necessary for effective and secure mobile and wireless solutions. Labcal also offers an advanced, unique and secure SSO solution featuring its TruBlue™ fingerprint and smart card readers.

Labcal took mobile authentication to a new level in 2006 with the introduction of the Be.U Mobile™, the most rugged handheld biometrics identity management device in the world. The Be.U Mobile was engineered to meet U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) military specifications for harsh environmental conditions, known as MIL-STD-810F, as well as the IP65 Ingress Protection rating. The Be.U Mobile is a handheld fingerprint and smart card reader that supports multiple biometric algorithms. It is currently deployed in numerous civil and military identification programs around the world. The Be.U Mobile also meets a multitude of international smart card standards, including ICAO standards for contactless reading and authentication, and can be deployed in border control applications to authenticate e-Passports.
Cross Match will integrate Labcal’s Canadian operations into its global organization. Additional terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
