Florida Police Officers Enhance the Investigative Process
with Cross Match Mobile Wireless Solution
Mobile Rapid ID Certified by FDLE
Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. February 25, 2010 – Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a global provider of biometric identity solutions, has expanded its Rapid ID solution within the state of Florida to include a mobile, wireless scanner. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is utilizing this technology to help modernize its identity verification process.
FALCON is FDLE's state-of-the-art system for identifying criminal suspects and reporting data. Authorized users can biometrically identify criminal suspects and pull information from state and national crime databases. Recently, FDLE certified Cross Match Mobile Rapid ID for use with FALCON by Florida's state and local criminal justice agencies to help prevent, investigate and solve crimes.
Rapid identification solutions are used to capture and submit the biometric and demographic data required to perform FALCON's search and matching operations. The Cross Match Mobile Rapid ID solution is centered on the Cross Match Verifier MW, the first FBI-certified handheld portable fingerprint capture device. Verifier MW was designed to provide military and law enforcement agencies with the capability to immediately capture and collect forensic-quality fingerprint images.
When coupled with FALCON, the system provides instantaneous submission of biometric data and access to vital information for use at traffic stops and crime scenes. "The digital fingerprint image is transmitted using a wireless interface or Bluetooth device," explains Mike Oehler, vice-president of product management for mobile biometrics at Cross Match. "The Mobile Rapid ID handheld device is battery powered, thereby eliminating the need for a separate power supply."
In addition to the FALCON search and match capabilities, Rapid ID users will have additional options to perform tasks such as wants/warrants checks, requesting RAP sheets or adding suspects to watch lists. Rapid ID will also provide users with the ability to search the FBI's RISC database. "Cross Match often works with local and state government agencies to create cost effective solutions that accelerate the investigative process," says Oehler. "Initiatives such as this one in Florida will help to enhance public safety and greatly benefit the state."
