Cross Match Technologies Files Complaint With U.S. International Trade Commission Alleging Patent Infringement By Suprema, Inc. and Mentalix, Inc.
Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. May 12, 2010 – Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a global provider of biometric identity solutions, filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission (ITC) May 11, 2010 alleging infringement of four of its patents by biometric scanners made and sold by Suprema, Inc. and Mentalix, Inc.
The four Cross Match patents in the complaint relate to Cross Match’s patented Auto Capture™ process, as well as its pioneering inventions in the areas of rolled print capture and optical systems. These patented technologies allow for enhanced and reliable fingerprint image acquisition.
Suprema, based in Korea, manufactures, among others, RealScan live scanners. Mentalix, based in Plano, Texas, sells Suprema products.
Cross Match has asked the ITC to issue an exclusion order, barring from importation into the United States Suprema’s infringing products, and a cease and desist order barring the sale of any infringing products already in the United States.
Cross Match has also filed a lawsuit against Suprema and Mentalix in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas alleging patent infringement.
"Cross Match’s legal actions against Suprema and its distributors are based upon the principle of protecting the ongoing pioneering research and development of proprietary technologies used to protect and secure lives, property and privacy," said Cross Match CEO Jim Grau. "Both the lawsuit in Texas and this action are about Suprema’s attempt to build products based on Cross Match’s propriety innovations. Companies that want to compete with us should do so by inventing their own technologies, not by taking ours."
Cross Match has a rich history of innovation. The company and its subsidiaries have been granted over 110 patents and have many additional patent applications pending in the field of biometric identity solutions. Grau said Cross Match intends to vigorously enforce its intellectual property rights to protect its proprietary technologies.
